About us...
Appleby Bakery consists of 2 shops (one in Appleby and one in Kirkby Stephen), a bakery (based in Appleby on Cross Croft Industrial Estate) and an Appleby based outside catering firm.
Formerly known as Appleby Bread Shop, the Boroughgate based business has been operating under its present owners since 1983. Owners Carol Thornton and Jackie Kirkpatrick expanded to Kirkby Stephen three years later where they opened Kirkby Stephen Bread Shop. The 2 shops have now successfully run for many years along with an outside catering division, Eden Valley Catering which has been the official caterer for many local agricultural and county shows, private weddings as well as prestigious events like Appleby Jazz Festival.
The successful business has always used local produce wherever possible, however Jackie and Carol have always had aspirations to become a self sufficient bakery supplying their own shops and catering business.
Appleby Bakery located on Cross Croft Industrial Estate opened in March this year and has given Carol, Jackie and their team the opportunity to develop their already excellent products to a new and exciting level. The Bakers work 6 days a week providing an ever increasing range of cakes, tray-bakes and more to both shops, plus supplying Eden Valley Catering with food for outside catering events and its newest venture, the buffet board - a service for businesses and individuals alike that require food on a regular or one off basis for business meetings, team events, training etc.
